Why we ask about gross vs net. Most comparison tables quietly treat every threshold as the same kind of number. They aren't. Greece, Croatia, Cyprus and Estonia set their bar in net income (Cyprus spells out "after the deduction of contributions and taxes"), while Spain, Portugal and Malta work from gross figures. A €3,500 gross salary does not clear a €3,500 net requirement. We flag which is which on every row below.

Why we ask who's coming. Nearly every tool online compares you against the single-applicant figure, then leaves you to discover that a partner and a child add hundreds of euros a month to the bar. The uplifts are not small and they are not consistent: Croatia adds about €145 a person, Spain adds €1,068 for the first family member. And 4 of these 9 countries publish no uplift at all (Italy, Estonia, Bulgaria, Malta), and where that's the case we say so instead of inventing a number, because "not published" means ask the consulate, not "it's free".
